Original Hebrew Text: יחזקאל 17:1 ויהי דבר־יהוה אלי לאמר׃ יחזקאל 17:2 בן־אדם חוד חידה ומשׁל משׁל אל־בית ישׂראל׃ יחזקאל 17:3 ואמרת כה־אמר אדני יהוה הנשׁר הגדול גדול הכנפים ארך האבר מלא הנוצה אשׁר־לו הרקמה בא אל־הלבנון ויקח את־צמרת הארז׃ יחזקאל 17:4 את ראשׁ יניקותיו קטף ויביאהו אל־ארץ כנען בעיר רכלים שׂמו׃ יחזקאל 17:5 ויקח מזרע הארץ ויתנהו בשׂדה־זרע קח על־מים רבים צפצפה שׂמו׃ יחזקאל 17:6 ויצמח ויהי לגפן סרחת שׁפלת קומה לפנות דליותיו אליו ושׁרשׁיו תחתיו יהיו ותהי לגפן ותעשׂ בדים ותשׁלח פארות׃ יחזקאל 17:7 ויהי נשׁר־אחד גדול גדול כנפים ורב־נוצה והנה הגפן הזאת כפנה שׁרשׁיה עליו ודליותיו שׁלחה־לו להשׁקות אותה מערגות מטעה׃ יחזקאל 17:8 אל־שׂדה טוב אל־מים רבים היא שׁתולה לעשׂות ענף ולשׂאת פרי להיות לגפן אדרת׃ יחזקאל 17:9 אמר כה אמר אדני יהוה תצלח הלוא את־שׁרשׁיה ינתק ואת־פריה יקוסס ויבשׁ כל־טרפי צמחה תיבשׁ ולא־בזרע גדולה ובעם־רב למשׂאות אותה משׁרשׁיה׃ יחזקאל 17:10 והנה שׁתולה התצלח הלוא כגעת בה רוח הקדים תיבשׁ יבשׁ על־ערגת צמחה תיבשׁ׃ יחזקאל 17:11 ויהי דבר־יהוה אלי לאמר׃ יחזקאל 17:12 אמר־נא לבית המרי הלא ידעתם מה־אלה אמר הנה־בא מלך־בבל ירושׁלם ויקח את־מלכה ואת־שׂריה ויבא אותם אליו בבלה׃ יחזקאל 17:13 ויקח מזרע המלוכה ויכרת אתו ברית ויבא אתו באלה ואת־אילי הארץ לקח׃ יחזקאל 17:14 להיות ממלכה שׁפלה לבלתי התנשׂא לשׁמר את־בריתו לעמדה׃ יחזקאל 17:15 וימרד־בו לשׁלח מלאכיו מצרים לתת־לו סוסים ועם־רב היצלח הימלט העשׂה אלה והפר ברית ונמלט׃ יחזקאל 17:16 חי־אני נאם אדני יהוה אם־לא במקום המלך הממליך אתו אשׁר בזה את־אלתו ואשׁר הפר את־בריתו אתו בתוך־בבל ימות׃ יחזקאל 17:17 ולא בחיל גדול ובקהל רב יעשׂה אותו פרעה במלחמה בשׁפך סללה ובבנות דיק להכרית נפשׁות רבות׃ יחזקאל 17:18 ובזה אלה להפר ברית והנה נתן ידו וכל־אלה עשׂה לא ימלט׃ יחזקאל 17:19 לכן כה־אמר אדני יהוה חי־אני אם־לא אלתי אשׁר בזה ובריתי אשׁר הפיר ונתתיו בראשׁו׃ יחזקאל 17:20 ופרשׂתי עליו רשׁתי ונתפשׂ במצודתי והביאותיהו בבלה ונשׁפטתי אתו שׁם מעלו אשׁר מעל־בי׃ יחזקאל 17:21 ואת כל־מברחו בכל־אגפיו בחרב יפלו והנשׁארים לכל־רוח יפרשׂו וידעתם כי אני יהוה דברתי׃ יחזקאל 17:22 כה אמר אדני יהוה ולקחתי אני מצמרת הארז הרמה ונתתי מראשׁ ינקותיו רך אקטף ושׁתלתי אני על הר־גבה ותלול׃ יחזקאל 17:23 בהר מרום ישׂראל אשׁתלנו ונשׂא ענף ועשׂה פרי והיה לארז אדיר ושׁכנו תחתיו כל צפור כל־כנף בצל דליותיו תשׁכנה׃ יחזקאל 17:24 וידעו כל־עצי השׂדה כי אני יהוה השׁפלתי עץ גבה הגבהתי עץ שׁפל הובשׁתי עץ לח והפרחתי עץ יבשׁ אני יהוה דברתי ועשׂיתי׃ Literal translation of the Hebrew: Y'chizkiel 17 1 And it was the Word of YHVH came unto me to say, 2 son of man, point a riddle and speak a proverb to the house of Israel, 3 and say, "this says my Lord YHVH", "the great eagle's great wings span soaring full of feathers whose varied colours come upon the white mountain(or Libnan) and takes the highest top of the cedar tree, 4 it's head cropped off like a sapling and brought it into the earth(land) of Kenan in a city called Rechalim(literally meaning gossipers) 5 and take from the seed of the earth and plant(literally give) the seed in the field, take upon the great waters(seas implied) and put(or place in) the floods(or overflowed areas), 6 and it will grow and come to be the vine spreads low(or humble) in stature(or height) its branches turning to itself and its root beneath will come to be a vine bringing forth branches(of its own implied) sending out their foliage 7 and there was a great eagle with great wings with great feathers and behold this vine turns its root and its branches and sent them to drink(or watered them with) a deceptive longing 8 on the good field, on the great waters it is planted to make boughs to lift fruit to be the vine's glory(magnificence, splendour) 9 say this, says my Lord YHVH, "prosper not", its root I will pull out and its fruit I will cut off and it will wither and all the leaves it sprouted will wither and will not seed greatly and a great nation(people) I will lift up from the root 10 and behold the plant prospered not, stricken by the east wind, withered and dried, as a longing(for water implied) sprout dried up(withered) 11 and it came to be, the Word of YHVH that He had spoken to me 12 speak now to the house of rebellion(or bitter house), not knowing what, they said, behold, the king of Bavel(Babylon) came to Yerushalem and took her king and his servants and brought them to Bavel(Babylon) 13 and he took from the seed of the kingdom and made(literally cut) a covenant with him swearing an oath and brought with him those and took that earth's(land's) gods 14 to be a low(humble) kingdom they were not able to bear to keep the covenant in place(standing, established) 15 and he went down and sent his messenger to Mitzrayim(Egypt) to give horses and with great success these escaped and broke the covenant and fled 16 "I live", says my Lord YHVH, "if the king will not stand, his rule(or reign or throne) will be despised he will break(or dissolve, nullify) his oath(sworn covenant), in the midst of Bavel(Babylon) he will die 17 and not in a large force and in a great multitude will paro(Pharao) make war, pouring a mound(heap of rocks) and building a dike(siege wall) to cut off the souls of leaders 18 and in this they broke the covenant and here he gives his hand and all these will not escape 19 so thus says my Lord YHVH, "I live", if I did not go and make this covenant which was broken and put it on his head 20 and spread for him a net and he was caught in his dike(siege wall) and he came to Bavel(Babylon) I judged him there, sin is sin against Me 21 and all who escape and all who take cover will fall by the sword and the remnant of all who scatter to the wind(or are dispersed by the Spirit) and know that I AM YHVH spoke 22 thus says my Lord YHVH, "and I took from the top of the high cedar and gave from the head(top) a young soft twig, I cropped and planted it on a high mountain and exalted it 23 in the lofty mountain of Israel we planted it and it lifted up a branch and it bore fruit and became a mighty cedar and we put every bird under it and every wing dwelt in the shadow of its branches 24 and they knew all the trees of the field which I YHVH lowered(humbled) the haughty tree, I raised the low(humble) tree, a watered tree I dried up, a dry tree I made blossom, I AM YHVH, I have spoken it and I have done it
