1 ספר מלכים
17:1 ויאמר אליהו התשׁבי מתשׁבי גלעד אל־אחאב חי־יהוה אלהי ישׂראל אשׁר עמדתי לפניו אם־יהיה השׁנים האלה טל ומטר כי אם־לפי דברי׃
17:2 ויהי דבר־יהוה אליו לאמר׃
17:3 לך מזה ופנית לך קדמה ונסתרת בנחל כרית אשׁר על־פני הירדן׃
17:4 והיה מהנחל תשׁתה ואת־הערבים צויתי לכלכלך שׁם׃
17:5 וילך ויעשׂ כדבר יהוה וילך וישׁב בנחל כרית אשׁר על־פני הירדן׃
17:6 והערבים מביאים לו לחם ובשׂר בבקר ולחם ובשׂר בערב ומן־הנחל ישׁתה׃
17:7 ויהי מקץ ימים וייבשׁ הנחל כי לא־היה גשׁם בארץ׃
17:8 ויהי דבר־יהוה אליו לאמר׃
17:9 קום לך צרפתה אשׁר לצידון וישׁבת שׁם הנה צויתי שׁם אשׁה אלמנה לכלכלך׃
17:10 ויקם וילך צרפתה ויבא אל־פתח העיר והנה־שׁם אשׁה אלמנה מקשׁשׁת עצים ויקרא אליה ויאמר קחי־נא לי מעט־מים בכלי ואשׁתה׃
17:11 ותלך לקחת ויקרא אליה ויאמר לקחי־נא לי פת־לחם בידך׃
17:12 ותאמר חי־יהוה אלהיך אם־ישׁ־לי מעוג כי אם־מלא כף־קמח בכד ומעט־שׁמן בצפחת והנני מקשׁשׁת שׁנים עצים ובאתי ועשׂיתיהו לי ולבני ואכלנהו ומתנו׃
17:13 ויאמר אליה אליהו אל־תיראי באי עשׂי כדברך אך עשׂי־לי משׁם עגה קטנה בראשׁנה והוצאת לי ולך ולבנך תעשׂי באחרנה׃
17:14 כי כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישׂראל כד הקמח לא תכלה וצפחת השׁמן לא תחסר עד יום תתן־יהוה גשׁם על־פני האדמה׃
17:15 ותלך ותעשׂה כדבר אליהו ותאכל הוא־והיא וביתה ימים׃
17:16 כד הקמח לא כלתה וצפחת השׁמן לא חסר כדבר יהוה אשׁר דבר ביד אליהו׃
17:17 ויהי אחר הדברים האלה חלה בן־האשׁה בעלת הבית ויהי חליו חזק מאד עד אשׁר לא־נותרה־בו נשׁמה׃
17:18 ותאמר אל־אליהו מה־לי ולך אישׁ האלהים באת אלי להזכיר את־עוני ולהמית את־בני׃
17:19 ויאמר אליה תני־לי את־בנך ויקחהו מחיקה ויעלהו אל־העליה אשׁר־הוא ישׁב שׁם וישׁכבהו על־מטתו׃
17:20 ויקרא אל־יהוה ויאמר יהוה אלהי הגם על־האלמנה אשׁר־אני מתגורר עמה הרעות להמית את־בנה׃
17:21 ויתמדד על־הילד שׁלשׁ פעמים ויקרא אל־יהוה ויאמר יהוה אלהי תשׁב נא נפשׁ־הילד הזה על־קרבו׃
17:22 וישׁמע יהוה בקול אליהו ותשׁב נפשׁ־הילד על־קרבו ויחי׃
17:23 ויקח אליהו את־הילד וירדהו מן־העליה הביתה ויתנהו לאמו ויאמר אליהו ראי חי בנך׃
17:24 ותאמר האשׁה אל־אליהו עתה זה ידעתי כי אישׁ אלהים אתה ודבר־יהוה בפיך אמת׃
Literal translation of the Hebrew:
1 Malchim 17
1 and Eliyahu the native dwelling in Gilad said to Ahav, my God YHVH of Israel lives, when I stood before Him these years in dew and rain while through my mouth He spoke
2 and so it came to be YHVH his God said to him,
3 go from there, turn around(lit.turn and face the ground) and hide in Cherit(means cushion or pillow) creek which is across from the Yarden(Jordan river)
4 and there at the creek of sleep the Arabs were commanded to feed him there
5 and he went and did as YHVH commanded and he dwelt at the Cherit creek across from the Yarden
6 and the Arabs brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening and he drank from the creek
7 and it came to be from the end of days the creek dried up because no rain came upon the earth
8 and it came to be YHVH spoke to him and said,
9 rise and purify yourself, go to Tzidon and dwell there, see I command you to go there to marry(lit. to wife) a widow to look after you(sustain you, care for you)
10 and he rose up and went and purified himself and came to the entrance of the city and see there was the widow he was to marry(take to wife) gathering trees and called her and said please give me a little water in a vessel and be my wife
11 and he went to take it and called to her and said, please let me have a piece of the bread that's in your hand
12 and she said, YHVH your God lives, I have a hand full of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug and I will come from gathering trees and I come and prepare for me and my son and we will eat and die
13 and Eliyahu said to her, do not fear but do as you said and make from there a small cake but first go and bring out to me and to you and to your son afterwards
14 for so says my God YHVH of Israel, the flour in the jar will not be consumed and the jug of oil shall not lack until the day YHVH gives rain on the surface of the ground
15 and go and do as Eliyahu says and feed him and her during the days at home
16 the jar of flour was not consumed and the jug of oil did not lack as YHVH had spoken through(lit. in Hebrew=at the hand of) Eliyahu
17 and after all these things the son of the wife, the mistress of the house, became ill and his sickness was very strong until no breath was left in him
18 and she said to Eliyahu, what am I to you man of God, you came to me to talk of poverty and kill my son?
19 and he said to her, give me your son and he took him from her lap and he went up(upstairs implied) and he sat there and laid him on the bed
20 and he called to YHVH and said, YHVH my God also according to the widow I brought her the evil that killed her son
21 and stretch yourself(or measure) upon the child three times and he called unto YHVH and said YHVH my God I pray You return the child's soul to him
22 and YHVH heard the voice of Eliyahu and returned the child's soul to him and he lived
23 and Eliyahu took the child and came down from up on the house(from upstairs implied) and gave him to his mother and Eliyahu said, see your son lives
24 and his wife said to Eliyahu, now I know you are a man of God and the Word of YHVH is true in you
