1 Malchim 18
1 ויהי ימים רבים ודבר־יהוה היה אל־אליהו בשׁנה השׁלישׁית לאמר לך הראה אל־אחאב ואתנה מטר על־פני האדמה׃
2 וילך אליהו להראות אל־אחאב והרעב חזק בשׁמרון׃
3 ויקרא אחאב אל־עבדיהו אשׁר על־הבית ועבדיהו היה ירא את־יהוה מאד׃
4 ויהי בהכרית איזבל את נביאי יהוה ויקח עבדיהו מאה נבאים ויחביאם חמשׁים אישׁ במערה וכלכלם לחם ומים׃
5 ויאמר אחאב אל־עבדיהו לך בארץ אל־כל־מעיני המים ואל כל־הנחלים אולי נמצא חציר ונחיה סוס ופרד ולוא נכרית מהבהמה׃
6 ויחלקו להם את־הארץ לעבר־בה אחאב הלך בדרך אחד לבדו ועבדיהו הלך בדרך־אחד לבדו׃
7 ויהי עבדיהו בדרך והנה אליהו לקראתו ויכרהו ויפל על־פניו ויאמר האתה זה אדני אליהו׃
8 ויאמר לו אני לך אמר לאדניך הנה אליהו׃
9 ויאמר מה חטאתי כי־אתה נתן את־עבדך ביד־אחאב להמיתני׃
10 חי יהוה אלהיך אם־ישׁ־גוי וממלכה אשׁר לא־שׁלח אדני שׁם לבקשׁך ואמרו אין והשׁביע את־הממלכה ואת־הגוי כי לא ימצאכה׃
11 ועתה אתה אמר לך אמר לאדניך הנה אליהו׃
12 והיה אני אלך מאתך ורוח יהוה ישׂאך על אשׁר לא־אדע ובאתי להגיד לאחאב ולא ימצאך והרגני ועבדך ירא את־יהוה מנערי׃
13 הלא־הגד לאדני את אשׁר־עשׂיתי בהרג איזבל את נביאי יהוה ואחבא מנביאי יהוה מאה אישׁ חמשׁים חמשׁים אישׁ במערה ואכלכלם לחם ומים׃
14 ועתה אתה אמר לך אמר לאדניך הנה אליהו והרגני׃
15 ויאמר אליהו חי יהוה צבאות אשׁר עמדתי לפניו כי היום אראה אליו׃
16 וילך עבדיהו לקראת אחאב ויגד־לו וילך אחאב לקראת אליהו׃
18:17 ויהי כראות אחאב את־אליהו ויאמר אחאב אליו האתה זה עכר ישׂראל׃
18:18 ויאמר לא עכרתי את־ישׂראל כי אם־אתה ובית אביך בעזבכם את־מצות יהוה ותלך אחרי הבעלים׃
18:19 ועתה שׁלח קבץ אלי את־כל־ישׂראל אל־הר הכרמל ואת־נביאי הבעל ארבע מאות וחמשׁים ונביאי האשׁרה ארבע מאות אכלי שׁלחן איזבל׃
20 וישׁלח אחאב בכל־בני ישׂראל ויקבץ את־הנביאים אל־הר הכרמל׃
21 ויגשׁ אליהו אל־כל־העם ויאמר עד־מתי אתם פסחים על־שׁתי הסעפים אם־יהוה האלהים לכו אחריו ואם־הבעל לכו אחריו ולא־ענו העם אתו דבר׃
22 ויאמר אליהו אל־העם אני נותרתי נביא ליהוה לבדי ונביאי הבעל ארבע־מאות וחמשׁים אישׁ׃
23 ויתנו־לנו שׁנים פרים ויבחרו להם הפר האחד וינתחהו וישׂימו על־העצים ואשׁ לא ישׂימו ואני אעשׂה את־הפר האחד ונתתי על־העצים ואשׁ לא אשׂים׃
24 וקראתם בשׁם אלהיכם ואני אקרא בשׁם־יהוה והיה האלהים אשׁר־יענה באשׁ הוא האלהים ויען כל־העם ויאמרו טוב הדבר׃
25 ויאמר אליהו לנביאי הבעל בחרו לכם הפר האחד ועשׂו ראשׁנה כי אתם הרבים וקראו בשׁם אלהיכם ואשׁ לא תשׂימו׃
26 ויקחו את־הפר אשׁר־נתן להם ויעשׂו ויקראו בשׁם־הבעל מהבקר ועד־הצהרים לאמר הבעל עננו ואין קול ואין ענה ויפסחו על־המזבח אשׁר עשׂה׃
27 ויהי בצהרים ויהתל בהם אליהו ויאמר קראו בקול־גדול כי־אלהים הוא כי שׂיח וכי־שׂיג לו וכי־דרך לו אולי ישׁן הוא ויקץ׃
28 ויקראו בקול גדול ויתגדדו כמשׁפטם בחרבות וברמחים עד־שׁפך־דם עליהם׃
29 ויהי כעבר הצהרים ויתנבאו עד לעלות המנחה ואין־קול ואין־ענה ואין קשׁב׃
30 ויאמר אליהו לכל־העם גשׁו אלי ויגשׁו כל־העם אליו וירפא את־מזבח יהוה ההרוס׃
31 ויקח אליהו שׁתים עשׂרה אבנים כמספר שׁבטי בני־יעקב אשׁר היה דבר־יהוה אליו לאמר ישׂראל יהיה שׁמך׃
32 ויבנה את־האבנים מזבח בשׁם יהוה ויעשׂ תעלה כבית סאתים זרע סביב למזבח׃
33 ויערך את־העצים וינתח את־הפר וישׂם על־העצים׃
34 ויאמר מלאו ארבעה כדים מים ויצקו על־העלה ועל־העצים ויאמר שׁנו וישׁנו ויאמר שׁלשׁו וישׁלשׁו׃
35 וילכו המים סביב למזבח וגם את־התעלה מלא־מים׃
36 ויהי בעלות המנחה ויגשׁ אליהו הנביא ויאמר יהוה אלהי אברהם יצחק וישׂראל היום יודע כי־אתה אלהים בישׂראל ואני עבדך ובדבריך עשׂיתי את כל־הדברים האלה׃
37 ענני יהוה ענני וידעו העם הזה כי־אתה יהוה האלהים ואתה הסבת את־לבם אחרנית׃
38 ותפל אשׁ־יהוה ותאכל את־העלה ואת־העצים ואת־האבנים ואת־העפר ואת־המים אשׁר־בתעלה לחכה׃
39 וירא כל־העם ויפלו על־פניהם ויאמרו יהוה הוא האלהים יהוה הוא האלהים׃
40 ויאמר אליהו להם תפשׂו את־נביאי הבעל אישׁ אל־ימלט מהם ויתפשׂום ויורדם אליהו אל־נחל קישׁון וישׁחטם שׁם׃
41 ויאמר אליהו לאחאב עלה אכל ושׁתה כי־קול המון הגשׁם׃
42 ויעלה אחאב לאכל ולשׁתות ואליהו עלה אל־ראשׁ הכרמל ויגהר ארצה וישׂם פניו בין ברכו׃
43 ויאמר אל־נערו עלה־נא הבט דרך־ים ויעל ויבט ויאמר אין מאומה ויאמר שׁב שׁבע פעמים׃
44 ויהי בשׁבעית ויאמר הנה־עב קטנה ככף־אישׁ עלה מים ויאמר עלה אמר אל־אחאב אסר ורד ולא יעצרכה הגשׁם׃
45 ויהי עד־כה ועד־כה והשׁמים התקדרו עבים ורוח ויהי גשׁם גדול וירכב אחאב וילך יזרעאלה׃
46 ויד־יהוה היתה אל־אליהו וישׁנס מתניו וירץ לפני אחאב עד־באכה יזרעאלה׃
Literal translation of the Hebrew:
1 Malchim 18
1 and there were a great many days and YHVH spoke unto Eliyahu in the third year and said, I tell you, show Ahav and give rain on the surface of the ground
2 and Eliyahu went to show Ahav and there was a strong famine in Shomron(Samaria)
3 and Ahav called Evdiyahu who was in the house and Evdiyahu feared YHVH greatly
4 and there on Isabelle's pillow(a possible place name or location) were the prophets of YHVH and Evdiyahu took a hundred prophets and they brought fifty men in the cave and kept them in bread and water
5 and Ahav said to Evdiyahu, go into the earth unto all springs of water and to all the rivers and we may find hay and revive a horse and a mule and not let the animals be cut off
6 and they divided the earth toward them, Ahav went one way(road) alone and Evdiyahu went one way(road) alone
7 and Evdiyahu on his way(road) saw Eliyahu before him and recognised him and he fell upon his face and said, he there is my master Eliyahu
8 and he said to him, I go and tell my master that Eliyahu is here
9 and he said what I had sinned because you gave my servant into the hand of Ahav to kill me
10 YHVH your God lives, if there is a gentile in the kingdom who has not sent my master there to ask you and they said nothing and swore the kingdom(saying swear by the kingdom) and the gentile would not be found
11 and now we told you, tell your master, Eliyahu is here
12 and I will go away from you and the Spirit of YHVH shall be upon you, I will not know and tell Ahav and you will not find and kill me and your servant has seen YHVH from his youth
13 I did not tell my master what Isabelle did, killing one hundred and fifty men of YHVH's prophets, fifty men in the cave and eating bread and water
14 and now you have been told tell your master, here is Eliyahu, I will kill him
15 and Eliyahu said, YHVH of hosts lives as I stood before He Whom I shall see today
16 and Evdiyahu went before Ahav and betrayed him and Ahav went before Eliyahu
17 and as soon as Ahav saw Eliyahu, Ahav said to him, so here you are, the trouble of Israel
18 and I told you not to trouble Israel, for if you and your father's house abandoned YHVH's commandments and walked after(follow) the ba'als
19 and now send unto me all of Israel at mount Carmel and the prophets of ba'al, four hundred and fifty and the prophets of asherah, four hundred who eat at Isabelle's table
20 and Ahav sent all the children(or sons) of Israel and gathered the prophets unto mount Carmel
21 and Eliyahu came unto all the people and said to them, until when you shall pass over the two branches if with YHVH God follow Him and if the ba'al follow him and none of the people spoke
22 and Eliyahu said unto the people, I alone remained a prophet of YHVH and the prophets of ba'al are four hundred and fifty men
23 and they will give us two bulls and they shall choose one bull and inspect it and put it on the trees(firewood) and I will not put them down I will take one bull and give it(put it) to the trees(firewood) and I will not be guilty
24 and they will call on the name of their god and I will call on the Name of YHVH and the God that answers with fire, He is God and all the people spoke and said, good
25 and Eliyahu said to the prophets of ba'al, choose the one bull and do it first because you are the greater number(many) and they cried out in the name of their god and fire was not set
26 and they took the bull that was given them and they did call on the name of the ba'al from the cattle and until noon they called the ba'al and no voice answered nor passed any over the altar with fire
27 and it was noon and Eliyahu mocked them and said, cry out with a loud voice, if he is god he will surely talk, or else he has withdrawn from you and he may be sleeping and he'll wake up
28 and they cried in a loud voice and they cut themselves like they were judged by swords and spears until they shed blood on them
29 and it was past noon and they prophesied until the oblation and there was no voice and no answer and nothing was heard(nothing regarded)
30 and Eliyahu said to all the people, come to me and all the people came to him and the ruined altar of YHVH will be healed
31 and Eliyahu took twelve stones as in the tribal books of the sons of Ya'acov which was the Word of YHVH to them to say Israel shall be your name
32 and from the stones he built an altar in the Name of YHVH and he made a ditch like a seed house's round about the altar
33 and he prepared the trees(firewood) and inspected the bull and put it on the trees(firewood)
34 and he said, fill four jars of water and they cast them on the leaves and on the trees and he said, double it and double it again and he said triple it and triple it again
35 and the water went about the altar and filled the ditches with water
36 and it came to be at the dawn of the oblation Eliyahu the prophet came and he said, YHVH my God, Avraham, Yitzchak and Israel today know that You are God of Israel and I am your servant and in your words I did all these things
37 the clouds of YHVH clouds and the people here will know that You YHVH are the God and You have turned their hearts
38 and the fire of YHVH fell and it consumed the leaves and the trees and the stones and the dirt and the water which were sitting in the ditch
39 and all the people saw and they fell on their faces and they said, YHVH He is God, YHVH He is God
40 and Eliyahu said to them, seek out the prophets of ba'al, no man of them shall flee and catch them, Eliyahu went down to Nahal Kishon(the river at Kishon) and killed them there
41 and Eliyahu said to Ahav, come up eat and drink because of the sound of noisy rain
42 and Ahav came up to eat and drink and Eliyahu went to the top of mount Carmel and he bent over the earth and put his face between his knees
43 and he said to his boy, rise up and look to the way of the sea and he rose and looked and said there is nothing and he said repeat seven times
44 and it came to be on the seventh time he said, there is a small leaf like a man's palm rising up from the water and he said go up and tell Ahav, prepare to come down and the rain will not consume
45 and it came to be so far and so far and the heavens were thick with darkness and wind and there was great rain and Ahav went on the way to Yizre'el
46 and the hand of YHVH was upon Eliyahu and he tightened his belt from the waist and he ran before Ahav until he came to Yizre'el
